FROM THE EAST - APRIL
Time has seemed to slip past me once again as I rush to get something to our Junior Steward for inclusion in the Beacon. With his patience and my last minute scribbling, I hopefully will provide him with some level of substance in what otherwise might be taken for something better suited to an April Fools posting. Perhaps some might find some sympathy as we all juggle our daily endeavors that, at the end of the day, prove to be rather unimportant. But that doesn’t stop them from taking far too much of our time and efforts. But I am heartened by the fact that we all have better days ahead as reminded in the celebration of renewal and rebirth that spring brings.
We have been faced with some ongoing issues that have been difficult and at times could be potentially contentious. However, I have been struck by how reasoned and calm many of our discussion have been Perhaps if we all take a moment for true reflection, as the season would suggest, we do remember how Freemasonry urges the practice of Brotherly Love and gives a moral compass that not only gives us a roadmap on how to live our lives but also how to act as we travel on that journey. I am sure that many of us have encountered those that have expressed a moral and virtuous attitude only to see them cast it aside when it proves expedient. So it has been a great honor and a true blessing to know so many members of our Lodge who strive so diligently to live up to the ideals set forth in Masonry.
I look forward to my remaining time with all of you and although we all want to cast aside our relocation discussions and get back to more important things, these issues continue to take up our time and efforts. However, it is comforting to know regardless the outcome; we are all striving to lay the foundation for the continued growth and prosperity of our Lodge. As many of us have probably found, it is not uncommon for our plans to get derailed by reality. But since none of us knows what life has in store it is rather foolish to be surprised by the unexpected.
Going forward, I would hope we all continue to try to set a good example and provide the potential guidance to those that express an interest in our fraternity. I would hope you can join us at our upcoming Stated Meetings. If you are in need, or if you know of anyone in need, please let us know if we can be of any assistance.
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Gregg Yates
