FROM THE EAST - APRIL
Happy April! Spring is here and we are reminded of life beginning again all around us. The reawakening of the Supreme Architect’s creation can be alluded to a certain part of the Masters Degree, and it is the revitalization Spring brings that is this month’s discussion.
Our Fraternity equips the Brethren with the mental and spiritual tools to handle the ups and downs of life. Just as the colors, warmth, and brightness of Spring rejuvenate the earth after Winter’s cold bleakness, so does the gentle teachings of Freemasonry rejuvenate our spirits during the travails that often beset us. Psalm 30:5 tells us that “Sorrow endures for a night, but joy comes in the morning.” Freemasonry emphasizes patience (as we learned in our work), dedication (which we learn on committees if not elsewhere), and harmony between the brothers, to hasten the joy of morning. All these qualities serve us well in the outside world to keep our spirits up and lean on the inexhaustible source of spiritual guidance.
Our country is in the midst of a terrible financial crisis, and it appears that true leadership, accountability, and resolution are not as prevalent as they once were in American business and government. Through no fault of their own, millions of Americans are out of work with depleted or exhausted savings, and uncertainty reigns in their hearts. But the hope Spring brings is a reminder that no matter how harsh the Winter of our lives can be, a rebirth of beauty, life, and good times is around the corner.
As Freemasons, we are taught that our Brothers are source of worldly comfort to us, as we act under the all-seeing eye of the Divine. Let us remember to help each other with patience in our circumstances, dedication to our Masonic principles, and harmony amongst each other. Perhaps in our own Masonic way we can hasten the Spring for our families, communities, and our country.
Welcome Spring, and the joy you bring!
Fraternally, Stuart Mason
